120 Years of history
1840
Our story begins.
It all started with “Cottet Frères”, the frames factory in Morez du Jura (France) that designed and manufactured frames for multi-brand channels.
1902
First Cottet shop.
Cottet was founded with the opening of our first shop on Portal de l’Àngel in Barcelona. The largest optical shop in Europe
1956
The Cottet thermometer, a symbol for Barcelona.
The giant thermometer was installed on the façade of the Cottet building, spanning 5 storeys with a 570-metre structure and weighing 2,000 kilos. Today it is a historical monument in Barcelona.
1974
Third generation of Cottet.
Jorge Cottet, grandson of Constantino Cottet, takes over the business. Cottet starts offering a specialised audiology service.
1982
20 Shops.
Cottet expands in Catalonia and Madrid, with 20 points of sale.
1995
In 1995, Cottet implemented a new business concept, imported from the US, with shops specialising in sunglasses.
2002
100 years of Cottet Óptica.
A year of celebrations for our 100th anniversary and public recognition from the Barcelona City Council and Government of Catalonia.
2017
Launch of the new Cottet Barcelona brand.
The first collection of Cottet Barcelona private label sunglasses.
2019
Start of a new era.
Our flagship moves from Portal de l’Àngel to Rambla Catalonia 8. Launch of private brand Lunettier 1840. The Cottet brand of classic frames inspired by our French origins.
